Sophomore year of college at Northwestern, I roomed with Meghan, and Tina roomed with Maya next door.
It was a pretty fun living arrangement – it was easy for us all to hang out together and grab meals together.
What was not fun? The girl living two doors down from Meghan and me. Let’s just say, she and her boyfriend were so loud (especially the boyfriend), that we could hear them very clearly from TWO doors down. Not to mention that Tina and Maya could also hear them from THREE doors down. I had to walk past the girl’s room to get to the bathroom, and I could also hear them from the bathroom. It was ridiculous.
few years (6.5 years).
So my problem now is that the down-the-hall neighbors started smoking. It’s a non-smoking condo building, but the property manager says he can’t do anything to enforce the rule unless residents are smoking in the hallways, elevators, stairwells, lobby…public areas.
I hate to be a party-pooper, but we can smell the smoke in our unit, in the living room, bedroom…and that’s not fair, right? If they were blasting loud music, and it was bothering other residents, they would be asked to stop.
CJ even talked to the smoking neighbors. They were very defensive and said they’re taking precautions – they have an air filter – but it’s obviously not working.
What should we do?
